Welcome to BloomingWithIvy where you can learn all about herbals for people and their pets and how to use them.
Welcome to my blog about herbals for people and their pets. This is Ivy – my fur baby who is now 3 yrs old. She is a black and tan Pomeranian and is just so full of energy and love.
I had a wonderful Pom before her named Clover, what a joy she was. She was my companion for 15 years. She had some health issues from day one but I finally figured them out and with diet changes and the use of herbs. She was able to enjoy her later years so much more. Clover was the perfect proof of how what your pet ingests or absorbs through their skin will impact them in some way.
I promised myself with this new pup I would pay close attention to her and her needs. When I picked up Ivy at eight weeks old she was on kibble food containing chicken. Ivy started showing some issues starting in her ears at the first vet visit. The vet said we would watch it. My other pom Clover had ear infections for over four years and after taking her to four different vets the last one told me that many dogs have allergic reactions to chicken so I changed her diet and medicated her for the yeast growth in her ears. She was like a new puppy. She would normally sleep a lot, I just thought she was a mellow dog.
Remembering what Clover had gone through I proceeded to change Ivy’s diet at nine weeks old, to eliminate the chicken. After about a week her ears cleared right up and have been sparkling clean. I have never had to clean them – I believe it’s because the ph level in her body is now correct. She is now on a totally raw diet with added veggies/fruit cubes and herbals that I make ahead. She is thriving!!
I have been studying herbals and whole food nutrition since 2008. I am amazed by how wonderful plants and real food are for our health and all that they can do for us as well as our pets.
Working with herbs I have discovered so many ways to use them. I make all kinds of tinctures, teas, lotions and scrubs for my own use and also for gift giving, (oh how I love to package a gift).
I have several dog treat recipes that I love to make. Clover had a thyroid condition so I was sure that her treat recipes contained seaweed – loaded with iodine. I am now making new recipes for Ivy, she loves them! I’m very careful to use only real healthy whole food ingredients!
Growing my own herbs and wild foraging are something I really enjoy. I will be sharing many different projects, herbal recipes and plant information here on the blog.
I love the idea of this type of platform to share my knowledge, creativity and look forward to building a community. The need to learn and be challenged is so rewarding to me.
A really big change in my life since I started this blog last year is that my husband and I have moved from our home town of over 50 yrs and are now beginning a new chapter in our lives in a different state. We are looking forward to all the new adventures yet to come. He is loving our trail walks with Ivy and starting a new garden.
I will also be posting about my journey setting up this blog. I think it is so important to challenge ourselves. I couldn’t have done this blog without the help of “Justagirlandherblog” Abby Lawson and her course on “building a framework”. I have taken on this challenge and am loving it. If you want to know more about it check it out here!
