Every morning I make myself a nice cup of tea. I use several herbs for different reasons. These herbs help me with my seasonal allergies, occasional stress, menopause symptoms and basic pain. Herbs have so many medicinal properties. Steeping them in hot water for a tea is the perfect way to benefit from them.
Nettle is my favorite herb – it is a “balancing” herb that I mix with Lemon Balm as my base. Lemon Balm is good for lowing stress. When I’m feeling run down or I have indulged too much I will add some Dandelion Leaf as a gentle detox. If my joints are stiff then I use White Willow Bark. White Willow Bark is known for its anti-inflammatory properties.
During Allergy season I reach for my Mullein Leaf – which helps keep the sinus drained. I now also use Eucalyptus which has antibacterial and anti fungal properties.
Last year I had a sinus infection starting in the spring. Being away from home I went to one of those clinics. The Doctor treated me for cellulitis and had me take an antibiotic. I saw my Doctor when I returned home, again a different antibiotic was prescribed. This went on all summer. After 5 rounds of different antibiotics my swollen cheek was still there. I now believe it was a allergy/sinus issue. All of my symptoms disappeared over the winter and returned again this April. I have had a few days this spring where my cheek swelled just like last year. I started adding the Eucalyptus leaf and the Mullein to my tea. My cheek looks so much better. I believe I have kept my sinus clear and the fluid moving, no infection for me!
Here is a list of my 10 herbs that I always keep on hand for medicinal uses. You can make your own list and keep your favorites in stock for that healthy cup of tea!
It’s turning out the be a much happier spring than last year – Yay! I hope your springtime is going great ; )
